My 5 year old's pre-K classroom teaches the students sign language as their classroom second language. I love that the kids get to physically do something with language, I can see how the hand actions are building understanding of how the signs are formed and how they evolve upon each other. Kids can just remember so much better when physical motion is involved, not to mention the added benefit of becoming aware that there are people out there that communicate in quite a variety of methods. Physically doing helps remembering, not just memorization. Good development of multiple parts of the brain on this one, very pleased with the pre-K teacher's selection of language.
